Manifesto 2025

Susie Gallienne

My key areas of interest

  • HOUSING - Affordable Housing

  • HEALTH - Prevention of disease and ill health

  • EDUCATION - quality and stability for our children

  • ENVIRONMENT - clean renewable energy

I have the experience to put the needs of the GUERNSEY PEOPLE FIRST

Health Visitor for 33 years

I have made 21,000 home visits to families and the elderly, proactively supporting health and wellbeing and helping people to access the services they need.

I have brought about positive change through successful lobbying for:

  • Enhanced facilities in public areas for parents and children.

  • A housing review regarding the non-removal of carpets and floor coverings from vacated States housing.

  • Improved social services in Alderney.

Working across the islands of the Bailiwick –

Guernsey, Herm, Jethou, Brechou and, for 16 years, working one day a week in Alderney.

Listening to people from every walk of life - from Brechou castle to caravans, in the prison, on boats. Rented houses and privately owned houses. Every States estate and most GHA estates. Meeting people where they live.

Pride of Guernsey Awards

I was nominated in the first year of the Awards for making a difference in the community as a health visitor and again in 2023 for my contribution to the support of families with children with additional needs.

Chair of Wigwam and Guernsey Mencap -

Wigwam is a Guernsey charity supporting families with a child with additional needs. Guernsey Mencap supports adults with a learning disability. I have developed a professional level of individual support at Wigwam, increasing the membership from 80 to 260 + families and, this year, I have created an adult advocacy coordinator role for Guernsey Mencap.

Fundraising, designing, project managing, painting and equipping Wigwam's Michael Hutchings adapted play area.

Opened in 2025 and built in response to parents asking for a safe play area for children with moderate or severe disabilities who are unable to safely access regular playgrounds.

Active in the Arts and Sport

  • Competitive swimmer

  • Poet

  • Children’s book author

Why am I standing?

We need Deputies who can give the human, community view to balance the business view in debate which I think is so often missing. I am that person. I have the skills. I have the experience. I have the drive.

The States debate is the only place where changes to the law and the big financial decisions are made and I want to be in the thick of it. Why – because Guernsey’s future is my future, and Guernsey’s future is your future. And we deserve the best we can get from our government.

Key issues for me.

The lack of affordable housing is one of Guernsey’s biggest problems. We are now at a point where house prices and rents are so high, that Guernsey people with a middle income will not be able to to find affordable housing or will be living in severe housing poverty. They will look to leave the islands for a better life for their families . Besides the severe emotional and social loss this will mean for both them and their families, these are Guernsey people with skills we need. We will have to hire in, subsidize and provide key worker housing for non-local workers: teachers, police, nurses, paramedics radiographers, mechanics, middle managers etc . It is not an easy fix but I have visited in many, many Guernsey and Alderney homes and have discussed ideas in housing forums. I believe that there is a solution and would be keen to work on that.

Dr Nicola Brink has highlighted that the prevention of disease and ill health will be an important factor in managing our islands health service. As a health visitor, I have had five and a half years training and a whole career in prevention of disease and ill health in the community.

Traffic is an increasing issue. Car ownership is not likely to decrease. We need to look at managing our road use to keep the traffic flowing , ensure that the roads are safe for other road users and that the bus service remains affordable and reliable.

Our supply lines are vital to all of us. We must continue the work already started to ensure our ports and airport are fit for purpose into the future.

Now that the education reorganization is well underway, I would prioritise the completion of the infrastructure and bring stability for our children.

I would encourage any policies that promote economic growth and productivity as this underpins our public services and our quality of life.

My promise.

If elected I would promise that I will read, listen and use all evidence made available to me before voting to ensure that I make fair decisions and that I never forget the trust that the people of the Bailiwick of Guernsey have demonstrated in voting for me.

Finally – I try to live up to the tenets of Honesty, Service, Inclusion and Peaceful Resolution of Dispute.
